In the 18th century Catherine II took a long journey to one of Latvian lands (former Duchy of Courland), which was famous for its pristine nature. Here Catherine II discovered for herself a unique wonder of nature – Elier . Ancient Balts used Elier mud from the depth of an ancient lake for treatment of their beauty and enhancement of longevity. Today, there are Elier reserves in this place. The Mighty Empress fully enjoyed the power of this treasure and called it a beauty and youth elixir. Elier had become a secret of her femininity, attractiveness and beauty. All her life the Empress had been taking mud baths to maintain her health and youth, and to enchant and attract her new admirers.

In 1785, Catherine the Great gave her blessing and allowed usage of Elier in folk medicine. Before that Elier had been used only by members of royal families.
